A Scarborough burglar who stashed a stolen laptop, handbag and purse down the front of his tracksuit bottoms has been jailed for over three years.

44-year-old Robert Power targeted a house on Roscoe Street in the early hours of an August morning.

He was caught when police spotted him a few hours later and became suspicious over a rectangular shaped object in his trousers.

CCTV later showed he'd walked into the town centre right after the burglary.

The officer initially wanted to speak to him about another matter, but decided to search him.

He was found with the victim's laptop, handbag and purse concealed in a rucksack.

Power pleaded guilty to burglary and was sentenced to three years and three months in prison at York Crown Court.

Detective Constable Darrel Temple said: “Power is a prolific offender who has caused significant upset and anxiety for the victim of his crime.

“Thanks to the excellent work of our local policing team in Scarborough, who spotted him in strange circumstances later that morning, we were able to arrest Power before he had the chance to sell the goods on.

“We hope the victim can take some comfort knowing he has been forced to face justice.”
