13-year-old girl dies after incident on River Wharfe

A tragic incident occurred on the River Wharfe near Burnsall in the Skipton area, leading to the death of a young girl.

Emergency services were alerted at around 6:30pm on Sunday, 31st May 2026, after reports surfaced of a 13-year-old girl missing in the river.

The girl was rescued from the water shortly after and transported to the hospital by air ambulance.

Despite concerted efforts by members of the public and medical staff both at the scene and in hospital, the girl unfortunately passed away.

Her identity remains undisclosed at this time.

Authorities have asked the public and media to respect the family's privacy in their time of grief.
