Police release statement following man's death in York
A man has been arrested in connection with the incident, but police are treating the death as unexplained.
Police are treating the death of a man in York as unexplained.
Officers were called to Brownlow Street around 4am to reports a man was in cardiac arrest. Despite the efforts of the first responders, he died at the scene. The man’s next of kin have been informed.
The death is currently being treated as unexplained, however officers say they believe there was an incident in the area around 2am which may be relevant to the investigation.
Police say that extensive enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death are underway. Formal identification of the dead man will take place in due course.
A 56 year old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and he currently remains in custody.
The Senior Commander for York, Superintendent Ed Haywood-Noble from North Yorkshire Police said: “We will remain in the area while enquiries continue, officers are providing a visible and reassuring presence for local residents. Anyone with concerns is encouraged to speak to officers on patrol.
“As enquiries are at a very early stage, we would urge people not to speculate or comment online. While we understand this incident will have caused concern within the community, at this time we believe it to be an isolated event”.
