A police vehicle was rammed by a fleeing car during an illegal car meet at Rufforth Airfield on Sunday (13 April), prompting a significant police response and resulting in multiple arrests.

Officers from North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group were monitoring the private event on the morning of April 13, when vehicles began spilling out onto the public highway shortly after 11am.

One vehicle, a white Audi SUV, reversed into a police car on the B1224 as it attempted to flee the scene.

The driver later abandoned the vehicle on the airfield grounds. Fortunately, no officers were injured, but the police car sustained damage and had to be taken out of service.

In response, additional police resources—including the Firearms Support Unit, Operational Support Unit, Dog Unit, Response teams, and a drone operator—were deployed to secure the airfield amid concerns that suspects remained on site.

Between 5pm and 6pm, as the event came to a close, officers arrested six individuals on the airfield: five men aged 36, 30, 29, 28, and 26, and a 15-year-old boy, all from Birmingham.

They were taken into custody for questioning after Class A drugs were recovered during the operation.

All six were released under investigation on Monday afternoon (14 April) as inquiries continue.

Three vehicles, including the white Audi SUV involved in the collision, have been recovered for forensic examination.

North Yorkshire Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant information to contact them by calling 101 and asking to speak with the Force Control Room.
