Young musicians across North Yorkshire and York are set to benefit from expanded opportunities through the North Yorkshire and York Music Hub, led by North Yorkshire Council. Funded by the Department for Education, the Music Hub is committed to delivering high-quality music education to children and young people, fostering creativity, confidence, and musical development.

Under the guidance of music service manager Nicola Skrzypczak, the Hub supports more than 5,000 children and young people aged four to 18 through a variety of lessons and ensembles. Throughout the summer term, aspiring musicians are offered chances to join music services, work with specialist tutors, and perform live in large-scale concerts.

Cllr Annabel Wilkinson, executive member for education, learning and skills, emphasised the importance of musical inclusion: “Music is at the heart of a school, and all children and young people deserve equal opportunities to experience the fun of music.”

Dacre Braithwaite Church of England Primary School near Harrogate is one of the beneficiaries, offering students music tuition as part of their curriculum. Headteacher Mrs Jo Dobbs stated, “Learning about music, having the opportunity to play musical instruments and make music together is uplifting and a vital part of a rich and rounded education.”

Reflecting increased interest in contemporary and digital music, the Hub is expanding its music technology resources and accessible instrument stock. Mrs Skrzypczak noted, “It is fantastic to see children and young people wanting to engage more with contemporary digital music... Participation in musical activity can be truly life-changing, opening up opportunities to develop new skills, build confidence, and unlock future potential.”

The Music Hub’s enhanced offerings include new equipment funded by the Music Hubs Capital Instrument Grant, providing young people opportunities to explore beat-making, mixing, and modern creative technologies.
