Murder investigation launched after man seriously injured near Ripon

It is believed all parties involved are known to each other

Two men have been arrested following an incident in Melmerby, near Ripon, during which a man in his 40s sustained a serious knife wound to his neck.

North Yorkshire Police were contacted by the ambulance service at 11.39pm on Thursday, 4th December 2025, after the disturbance in the village. The injured man was taken to hospital for treatment, where he remains.

The two men arrested, one in his 40s and the other in his 50s, are being held on suspicion of attempted murder and remain in police custody.

Police have stated that the men involved in the disturbance are believed to know each other.

Witnesses who were in the village late on Thursday evening, particularly those who saw any disturbance outside the George and Dragon Inn, are urged to contact police on 101 and quote reference number 12250228569.
