Man in 20s remains in serious condition after Masham aircraft crash

Police have launched an appeal for information

Officers are appealing for witnesses and footage after a man in his 20s was seriously injured in a light aircraft crash near Masham.

Emergency services were called out to Grewelthorpe at 12.21pm on Wednesday 18th February to reports a light aircraft had crashed.

The aircraft crashed within the grounds of the Himalayan Garden and Sculpture Park.

The park was closed at the time of the incident, so no members of the public were injured.

A man in his 20s, believed to be the only person inside the aircraft, remains in hospital in a serious condition.

He was taken to hospital via air ambulance on Wednesday.

Both North Yorkshire Police and the Air Accident Investigation Branch have launched an investigation.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who saw the aircraft prior to the incident, to come forward.

"If you have any footage of the incident — including mobile phone or dashcam footage of the aircraft while airborne — please do not share it on social media. Instead, contact us directly.

"If you have any information please email [email protected] or call North Yorkshire Police on 101, ask for Matthew Wilkinson.

"Please quote reference 12260030318 when providing information."
