Man remanded in custody after court appearance over Scarborough robbery

43-year-old Abubakarr Moiba charged with multiple offences

A man has been remanded in custody after appearing in court charged with robbery in Scarborough.

The incident occurred at around 9.20pm on Sunday, 28th June 2026, when North Yorkshire Police received a report of a robbery in the Victoria Road area of the town.

Officers promptly attended the scene and later apprehended a suspect on Falsgrave Road.

During a search of the suspect’s home, police discovered a knife and suspected stolen property.

The victim, although not physically injured, is receiving specialist police support as investigations continue.

The accused, Abubakarr Moiba, a 43-year-old Sierra Leone national residing in Scarborough, was charged with robbery and possession of a knife in a public place.

Moiba stood before York Magistrates' Court on 30th June 2026, where he was also charged with attempted robbery against the same victim involving incidents on 16th-17th June 2026.

He is scheduled to appear at York Crown Court for plea and trial preparation on 20th July 2026.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police stated that while the news may cause concern in Scarborough, the incident is believed to have been targeted, and Moiba has been remanded into custody.

The neighbourhood policing team is actively patrolling the area to reassure the local community.
