Police appeal after woman reportedly raped on Malton street

Detectives are appealing to the public following a reported rape in Malton.

Officers say a woman was attacked at around 1am on Sunday (1st February) near Orchard Fields, to the rear of Tate-Smith wines.

North Yorkshire Police want to hear from anyone who was in the area at around 1am or who has doorbell or dashcam footage that could help with the investigation.

The suspect is being described as a man aged around 40-50 years old of stocky build, around 5’10” to 5’11” tall with facial hair, but not a full beard.

They also want to hear from anyone who may have seen either the woman or suspect walking in the area of Sheepfoot Hill and the fire station, or near to Tate-Smith Wines and Orchard Fields.

"We understand that local people will be very concerned about this incident", Detective Chief Inspector Dave Ellis, said.

He continued, "Our Major Investigation Team are carrying out extensive and expeditious enquiries to identify and locate the suspect and our crime scene investigators and search teams remained at the scene until Monday afternoon to carry out a detailed examination of the scene.

"Our Neighbourhood Policing Teams will continue to provide an increased visible presence in the Malton area to provide reassurance to the local community. We urge anyone with the smallest piece of information to please get in touch. The victim is receiving support from specially trained officers and specialist services as the investigation continues."
