Malton residents invited to weigh in on combined police and fire station proposal

Public consultation launched by Mayor for potential station survey

A public consultation has been launched, inviting Malton residents, businesses, and organisations to share their views on the potential development of a new joint Police and Fire station in the town.

David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, is responsible for overseeing decisions about the buildings utilised by North Yorkshire Police and North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Currently, Malton has separate Police and Fire Stations, both of which are considered outdated and unable to meet the needs of the emergency services or the community.

The consultation aims to gather public opinion on whether specialist survey work should be conducted to investigate the feasibility of a combined station.

The consultation is focused solely on the decision to pursue survey work, with no final decision on the joint station made at this stage.

The Mayor encourages participation from a wide range of individuals, including residents and employees in York and North Yorkshire, local businesses, and community organisations.

Jo Coles, Deputy Mayor for Police, Fire and Crime said:

“As Deputy Mayor for Police, Fire and Crime, it is my job to work with the emergency services to ensure our police officers and staff and fire fighters have what they need to do their job effectively and that includes working from buildings that are fit for purpose.

“That’s not the case currently in Malton and is why David Skaith, the Mayor and I are seeking the public’s views on whether to move forward with survey work on a potential new joint Police and Fire station for the town.

“Listening to residents and local businesses is key to being able to deliver effective local services, so we welcome responses on this from everyone who lives or works in York and North Yorkshire.”

To take part in this consultation, individuals can complete the online survey available until 1st July 2026, which is designed to take no longer than 10 minutes.
