Meet Jumbo the Elephant on Coney Street in York
Families are being invited to enjoy a free city-centre experience in York as a life-sized animatronic elephant arrives on Coney Street.
Jumbo the Elephant will appear as part of York BID’s latest Family Friendly Saturday event on Saturday, 6 June.
The 2-metre-tall animatronic elephant will explore the area around St Martin’s Clock on Coney Street, with lifelike elephant sounds, playful interactions and realistic movements.
Organisers say the event will bring “a little bit of jungle magic” to the city centre.
Jumbo will appear at 2pm, 4pm and 6pm, with each appearance lasting around 20 minutes.
Carl Alsop, Operations Manager at York BID, said: “We’re so excited to bring Jumbo the Elephant to Coney Street this June.
“This is our eleventh Family Friendly Saturday, and we’re incredibly proud to have welcomed thousands of families into the city centre through these playful, memorable experiences.”
York BID says it is committed to creating vibrant and welcoming experiences in the city centre for residents and visitors.
Family Friendly Saturdays form part of that programme, transforming public spaces with large-scale installations and performances.
The free event will take place around St Martin’s Clock on Coney Street on Saturday, 6 June.
Jumbo the Elephant will appear from 2pm to 2.20pm, 4pm to 4.20pm and 6pm to 6.20pm.
