A public consultation has launched over plans for a new joint police and fire station in Malton.

The current stations used by North Yorkshire Police and North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service are being described as old and no longer fit for purpose.

Jo Coles, Deputy Mayor for Police, Fire and Crime said: “As Deputy Mayor for Police, Fire and Crime, it is my job to work with the emergency services to ensure our police officers and staff and fire fighters have what they need to do their job effectively and that includes working from buildings that are fit for purpose.

“That’s not the case currently in Malton."

York and North Yorkshire's Mayor David Skaith and Jo Coles are now looking for the public's views on whether to conduct survey work for a joint station.

No final decision has been made yet and an online survey is running until 1st July.

The Mayor is looking for responses from members of the public who live or work in North Yorkshire; local businesses; and those who work for the police and fire service.

The survey can be found by clicking here.
