Party set to celebrate Jasmine Harrison's global sailing achievement
Celebratory events planned for homecoming weekend in Thirsk
Jasmine Harrison, a young adventurer from Thirsk, North Yorkshire, has successfully completed her solo circumnavigation of the globe on her 19-foot boat.
Reflecting on her epic journey, Jasmine said, “It's really difficult because like a year of anybody's life is like, you know, you have every different kind of emotion and feeling. It was that, but times 10. The good days were the best days ever, and the bad days were the darkest I've ever had.”
A homecoming party for Jasmine is scheduled for Saturday, 23rd May, featuring community events and evening festivities. She shared, “This weekend, it's a bit of a home coming. So during the day, there's a like a bit of a community event... Then in the evening, there's actually like more of a party.”
Jasmine says the support she's had means a lot to her: “Oh, it's been amazing. The following and the comments and stuff on social media...everybody's so supportive....I don't think there's been anything negative at all."
Considering her next steps, Jasmine hopes to inspire others: “I've been out there doing this by myself, but everybody's been really supportive and I kind of feel like I need to come back and actually, tell people what it's like...”
Looking to the future, Jasmine plans to relax and potentially delve more into swimming, stating: “...if I'm going to do anything, it's going to be more swimming again. Because swimming is my thing more than sailing.”
The homecoming event on Saturday is open to all ages, and Jasmine is inviting the community to join in: “Just a big thank you to everyone for supporting and just being awesome. I couldn't have done it without a lot of people."
