International experts are set to gather in York to discuss how the city could become the UK’s first “Dark Sky City.”
The event, Cities Under Stars: Tackling Light Pollution in Cities, takes place at York St John University on Wednesday 25 February as part of the North York Moors Dark Skies Festival.
The evening will bring together academics, designers, artists and environmental specialists to share ideas on reducing light pollution, improving urban environments, and protecting the night sky.
Organisers say the discussion will focus on practical steps cities, businesses and residents can take, as well as the environmental, health and tourism benefits of darker skies.
York St John University has already committed to creating a dark-sky-friendly campus, with plans to reduce unnecessary artificial lighting and demonstrate how cities can limit light pollution.
The event runs from 6:30pm to 9pm at the Creative Centre Auditorium.
