Holiday Park fined for illegal advertising near Pocklington

They'll have to pay over £2,000 in total

A holiday park from York has been fined for placing illegal advertising signs on the verge of the A1079 road at Wilberfoss, near Pocklington.

A solicitor representing Southfield Holiday Park Ltd pleaded guilty on its behalf to erecting two signs on the A1079 Hull to York Road without permission from the highway authority when they appeared at Beverley Magistrates' Court last month.

The park was fined £1,000 and ordered to pay £817.46 costs and a £400 victim surcharge – a total of £2,217.46.

The court heard streetscene enforcement officers from East Riding of Yorkshire Council saw two signs advertising Southfield Holiday Park Ltd had been placed on public verges along the A1079 at Wilberfoss between 1 August 2025 and 7 January 2026.

The signs had been erected on public land without the council's permission.

Placing signs on highways land without the council’s permission is a criminal offence .

Carl Skelton, director of streetscene services at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said:

“Our officers will investigate and remove any signs put up illegally on the highway, and we will prosecute wherever we can.

"Signs like these could be a major hazard to motorists.”
