Harrogate is set to host a significant event marking the conclusion of the We Walk for Yorkshire campaign, organised by Yorkshire Cancer Research.

The final leg of this inspiring baton relay will take place at the Yorkshire Cancer Research centre located in Hornbeam Park on Thursday, 28th May.

The campaign, which has spanned the entire month, involved the Baton for Yorkshire travelling through all four ridings of Yorkshire, stopping at 35 locations.

This journey symbolically represents the 35,000 individuals diagnosed with cancer annually in Yorkshire.

Participants have carried the baton, akin to the iconic Olympic torch relay, each adding a heartfelt message for someone affected by cancer.

The event will see Katie Hartshorne from Garforth act as the final baton bearer, and the baton will cross the finish line at 10:45am.

Katie will address attendees with a speech about her experience and the significance of being the final bearer.

Neil Preston, Director of Fundraising at Yorkshire Cancer Research, will also deliver remarks reflecting on the accomplishments of the relay.

Messages penned by each baton-bearer during the journey will be showcased at the event, highlighting their personal reasons for participating.

Media representatives are invited for interviews and photo opportunities with Katie, Neil, and Dr Kathryn Scott, the Chief Executive of Yorkshire Cancer Research.

This media-focused morning from 10am to 12pm promises to offer case studies and interaction with key figures from Yorkshire Cancer Research.
