North Yorkshire Police operation targets knife crime in Scarborough, Whitby and Filey
24-hour crackdown involves arrests and weapons seizures
North Yorkshire Police have conducted a major 24-hour operation targeting knife crime and organised criminal activity across Scarborough, Whitby and Filey.
Dubbed Operation Tornado, the effort involved officers from various policing teams working together to carry out arrests, seize suspected weapons, and execute warrants from 14th to 15th October 2026.
The operation's enforcement activities resulted in 10 arrests and the seizure of 101 items suspected to be illegal weapons. Police executed warrants at multiple properties, including a business on Foreshore Road in Scarborough, where a significant number of weapons were recovered.
Further warrants conducted in Malton led to the seizure of suspected Class A drugs, cash, and drug paraphernalia, with ongoing inquiries linked to these discoveries.
The operation also included engagement initiatives, such as visits to schools and community events, aiming to educate young people and residents about the dangers of knife crime. Officers held discussions at Scarborough Hospital and worked with local businesses to boost crime prevention efforts.
Deputy Chief Constable Scott Bisset praised the operation's dual focus on enforcement and education. He noted the importance of collaborative efforts to address knife crime and emphasized the commitment to keeping communities across North Yorkshire safe.
Anyone with information about knife crime or other criminal activities in their area is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
