Illegal e-bike seized in Filey for uninsured road use
Police caution against buying non-road-legal e-bikes
The Filey Neighbourhood Policing Team seized an illegal e-bike during patrols on Muston Road, Filey after establishing it was being used unlawfully on the road.
Officers encountered the rider after turning their patrol vehicle around to catch up with him, resulting in the seizure of the e-bike and a report filed for riding without insurance.
Local police emphasize the risks posed by illegal vehicles, which can endanger both riders and other road users and continue proactive measures to address illegal activities on roads.
With Christmas approaching, police advise parents and guardians against buying e-bikes that may not be road legal. Such bikes, often advertised online, might classify as motor vehicles needing insurance, a driving licence, and registration for legal road use.
Community members are encouraged to report any sightings of illegal e-bike use, anti-social behaviour, or criminal activities through 101, or dial 999 during emergencies or when a crime is in progress.
