The family of a woman who died following a crash in Northallerton have paid tribute to her.

Officers said a red Kia Stonic left the B6271 near the Streetlam turnoff and crashed into a tree on 27th January.

The driver, 71-year-old Elsie Whitehead, died.

In a statement her family said, "We would like to thank the emergency services for their dedication, care, and compassion.

"We’re also incredibly grateful to the people who stopped to help when it mattered most — knowing others were there and willing to help has been a real comfort and something we will never forget.

"We have also taken great comfort from all of the support and messages of condolence received."
