A 22-year-old man has been sentenced after a high-speed pursuit by North Yorkshire Police.

Muhammad Khaliq Rasool from Stockton-on-Tees pleaded guilty to several charges, including failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, driving without insurance, and possession of a Class C drug.

He was sentenced at Harrogate Magistrates’ Court to 30 weeks’ imprisonment, suspended for 24 months.

Rasool will also undergo 20 days of rehabilitation activity, complete 100 days of unpaid work, and pay £272 in court costs, alongside the destruction of the drug oxymetholone.

He was disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for 36 months and must pass an extended driving test.

Dangerous High-Speed Chase

The incident unfolded at 1.22am on 19th December last year when Rasool was detected driving at 130mph on the A19 near Thirsk.

Despite being signalled to stop by Roads Policing Sergeant Keenen, Rasool continued to evade capture, accelerating to 150mph before being cornered in a residential area.

Rasool attempted to switch seats to feign innocence but was identified as the driver and arrested along with a passenger, who was later released.

Police Comment

In custody, Rasool was found in possession of 10 tablets of oxymetholone, a Class C drug not prescribed to him.

Sergeant Keenen provided footage demonstrating Rasool’s dangerous driving and his attempts to deceive officers.

"This case shows the determination of North Yorkshire Police to relentlessly pursue dangerous criminals who use our road networks," Sgt Keenen said.
