A number of properties have been evacuated in York following reports of an explosion involving cylinders.

Fire crews were called to Crossfield Crescent in Fulford at around midday today (Wednesday 26 August).

A number of fire engines and officers were at the scene.

A safety cordon was put in place because of reports that cylinders were involved.

The cordon has since lifted.

People living nearby were evacuated but have now been allowed back home, with safety precautions in place.

Crews have been cooling the cylinder which was in the garden of a property.

An investigation will now take place.
