Approval given for new 30m-high 5G mast in York
Council clears plans for upgraded mobile infrastructure
Plans to install a 30-metre-high 5G mast in Nether Poppleton, York have received the green light, promising enhanced mobile technology in the area.
Telecommunications firm Cornerstone is set to replace an existing 28.6-metre mast with a new lattice structure featuring six antennas and two dishes.
According to Cornerstone's application, the upgraded mast will support 5G technology, described as a significant advancement in mobile services, and reassures that there are no health concerns associated with the new infrastructure.
City of York Council planning officers approved the proposal, highlighting that the installation would substitute a similar structure already present, thus preserving the area's appearance.
No objections were against the plan.
Cornerstone, noted as the UK's leading mobile infrastructure services provider, manages over 20,000 sites nationwide.
The firm's application for upgrades on Broad Lane cites a changed commercial relationship with O2-Virgin Media, enabling greater independence to collaborate with other companies on mobile infrastructure deployment.
The plans aim to improve existing 2G, 3G, and 4G cell services and establish new 5G connectivity for residents and visitors in Nether Poppleton.
Cornerstone emphasises the constant need to reinvest and modernise in response to technological advancements and growing subscriber demand in the telecommunications industry.
