Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following a serious head-on collision on the A661 near Harrogate.

The incident occurred around 12:30pm on Sunday, 18th May, on the stretch of road between Spofforth and the Kestrel roundabout.

The crash involved two vehicles: a black Peugeot 508 heading towards the A658 roundabout and a black Lexus IS300 travelling in the opposite direction towards Wetherby. The impact caused the Lexus to veer off the road and down an embankment.

Emergency services responded quickly. The woman driving the Peugeot was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries, while a female passenger in the same vehicle was taken to hospital by ambulance. The male driver of the Lexus was also taken to hospital for precautionary medical checks.

The road was closed for several hours to allow emergency crews to work safely, with diversions put in place. It reopened shortly before 5pm.

Investigators are now urging anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have relevant dashcam footage to come forward.
