Richmond pool repairs to be completed by end of year
Improvements include ceiling replacement and facility upgrades
North Yorkshire Council has commenced a £1.65 million programme to repair and upgrade swimming pools at Active North Yorkshire Richmond after their closure last April due to a partial ceiling collapse.
The repair work focuses on replacing the building’s ceiling, mechanical and electrical repairs, and safely removing sealed asbestos from the roof space, ensuring the facilities are secure and enhanced for customer use.
Cllr Simon Myers, North Yorkshire Council’s executive member for leisure, noted the significance of the facility: “We know how important the site is to residents, and alongside essential repairs, we are delivering wider improvements to meet high standards when reopened."
Additional enhancements include improved poolside lighting, upgrades to the site's heating system, and enhancements within the customer café. Due to these supplementary improvements and adjustments for scaffolding installation, the programme's completion is now anticipated by the end of this year.
Residents can access pool facilities at neighbouring Active North Yorkshire sites during the repairs.
