A knife amnesty bin in Skipton has seen over 140 items handed in, including a wide range of blades, as well as some unexpected items.

North Yorkshire police said that they collected including some cutlery, a couple of ice cream scoops and a wooden knife.

The force thanked everyone who handed in a knife, but reminded residents that the bins are for knives and bladed items only. Everyday utensils like teaspoons and potato peelers can be disposed of in your bin at home.

Via Facebook, a spokesperson for the force said:

"It’s great to see people continuing to use the bins and helping keep our communities safe.

"Every knife handed in is one less that can cause harm"

The amnesty bin was located in Skipton Town Hall car park, and it comes as a nationwide effort to get knives off our streets.
