Two people have been charged with murder following a fatal house fire that killed an elderly couple in St Helens.

Emergency services were called to South John Street shortly after 12.40am on Tuesday 15th July, after Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service reported a house fire in progress.

Eric Greener, 77, and his partner Sheila Jackson, 83, were rescued from inside the property and taken to hospital for treatment.

Both later died from their injuries.

Merseyside Police confirmed this evening that two more people have now been charged in connection with the incident.

Kevin Weetman, 34, of Croxteth Drive, Aigburth, and Kylie Maynard, 37, of Rydal Street, Everton, have both been charged with murder, conspiracy to murder, arson and conspiring to supply a controlled Class A drug (cocaine).

They have been remanded into custody and are due to appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court tomorrow.

A third person, Lee Owens, 46, of no fixed address, was previously charged with two counts of murder and arson with intent to endanger life.

He remains in custody and will next appear at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday 28th November.

In total, seven other people have been arrested as part of the ongoing investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve McGrath said: “The investigation is progressing and two more people have now been charged in connection with this incident.
