Raids have taken place as part of Operation AVRO
Police have arrested 60 people in Wigan as part of Operation AVRO, a day-long initiative aimed at tackling criminal activities in the area.
The operation involved a series of activities, including proactive traffic patrols, trading standards checks, and community engagement, as officers worked across multiple teams.
Twelve warrants were executed throughout Wigan targeting drug-related crimes, resulting in the seizure of dozens of cannabis plants, suspected illicit cash, and cocaine.
Weapons, including firearms, tasers, a knuckle duster, and a samurai sword were also recovered during the operation.
Partnership work was carried out to protect vulnerable residents, and Trading Standards visits resulted in the seizure of illegal cigarettes, vapes, and further illicit cash.
The day also saw specialist teams conducting work in various locations, and traffic operations resulted in 56 Traffic Offence Reports and 23 vehicle seizures.
Of those arrested, 26 have been charged or cautioned, 22 bailed, while others remain in custody for questioning.
Engagement activities were conducted in schools and businesses, focusing on knife and cyber-crime awareness.
Chief Superintendent Clare Jenkins from Greater Manchester Police praised the operation, emphasising the sustained disruption against criminal activities and the importance of community engagement.
