The Met Office has upgraded its weather warnings for strong winds set to arrive on Friday across Yorkshire, as Storm Eowyn makes landfall across the UK.

An 'amber' warning now covers large parts of West, South and North Yorkshire, also extending into parts of Northern Derbyshire.

Huddersfield, parts of the Bradford, Barnsley and Sheffield districts, and the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales are expected to see the worst of it.

The Met Office said: "Storm Eowyn is expected to pass close to or across the north west of the UK on Friday before clearing to the north east on Saturday.

"Whilst there is some uncertainty in the track of Eowyn, a spell of very strong winds is likely, initially south-easterly before turning westerly, with peak gusts of 60-70 mph inland and 80-90 mph along some coasts and hills - perhaps even higher in a few locations."

The amber warning for wind is in place from 6am on Friday morning until 9pm in the evening.

A separate less serious yellow warning is in place for the rest of the day.
