“This is a significant step forward": work begins on Yorkshire Air Ambulance’s new base
It is being built at Skipton on Swale
Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA) is starting work on its brand-new Northern Air Base, marking a major milestone in the charity’s 25th anniversary year.
A special spade-in-the-ground ceremony is taking place at the Skipton on Swale site, where the lifesaving charity is investing in the construction of a permanent facility to replace its current rented base at RAF Topcliffe.
The new development is part of YAA’s long-term strategy to strengthen its operations and safeguard the future of its critical care services across the region.
“This is a significant step forward for the charity,” said a YAA spokesperson. “Establishing a permanent home in the north will enhance our ability to deliver rapid, life-saving care across Yorkshire, now and into the future.”
Ripley-based HACS Construction has been appointed as the lead contractor for the project.
Mike Harrop is the Chairman and tells us what it means for the Charity: "We'll maintain a presence in the County, and we'll be able to deliver that cutting edge service to all parts of North Yorkshire and across all other parts of the County. Getting to patients within 20 minuets, we hope, anywhere in the County."
"We really feel we are adding to the quality of life for people in North Yorkshire and adding to their ability to survive a traumatic incident that we can help treat."
