West Yorkshire Police have arrested 64 people during the first week of their festive crackdown on drink and drug driving

The arrests, since December 1, included:

- A suspected drug driver detained following a 140mph motorway chase

- A man who was more than five times over the drink drive limit after stopping in a live lane on the M62

- A woman, holding only a provisional licence, arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a collision. Officers also found a young child in the back seat.

- Two suspected drug drivers caught within 30 minutes during a roadside operation in Wakefield. One driver, who attempted to leave the police checkpoint, was stopped after a brief pursuit.

The operation focuses on increasing patrols and educating drivers about the dangers of driving under the influence.

West Yorkshire Police are urging people to think twice and consider the serious consequences before choosing to drink or take drugs and get behind the wheel.
