Huddersfield’s award-winning ‘World’s Worst Record Covers’ exhibition will be returning from this weekend.

Local resident Steve Goldman’s dreadful collection of the world’s most awful record covers will be on display at Hive Cooperative Café on John William Street for two weeks, with the launch event taking place this Saturday (March 7) at 6pm. Visitors will be treated to 188 memorable covers, which are only a sample of Steve’s full collection of more than 700.

The exhibition made its Huddersfield debut in November 2021 and has earned high praise from the likes of renowned BBC Radio DJ Mark Radcliffe and stand-up comedy legend Stewart Lee. Since then, it has wowed and entertained crowds at galleries, museums, and comedy and music festivals around the UK.

For its latest Huddersfield visit, Hive café coordinator, Ben Flexen and the team will be putting on a special menu inspired by the collection.

Ben said: “We can’t wait to host the Worst Record Covers in the World exhibition. Our café is about bringing people together, and nothing is better for that than humour and terrible art. We’ve had a lot of fun coming up with our special menu. We will be offering some great food inspired by some truly terrible album covers!”

Steve said: “Since we launched in November 2021 it’s been a joy to take the exhibition around the UK and see how much pleasure and happiness it brings to people but there’s no place like home. Huddersfield is where it all began and it’s always a treat to bring it back and see faces old and new in a room filled with my dreadful collection.

“We don’t know what special menu the Hive Coop team will come up with yet, but as it’s a vegetarian and vegan café, I am not expecting rabbit to be on the menu!”

Attendees will be the first to get the chance to buy one of 50 first edition Worst Record Covers in the World 2027 calendars featuring 12 of Steve’s favourite covers. Steve, who had a stroke in 2020, aged 53, asks visitors to the free exhibition to make a donation to Different Strokes, a charity that supports young stroke survivors.

After its launch evening on Saturday, March 7 at 6.30pm, the exhibition will run from Monday 9 to Saturday 21, with the opening hours of 7.30am to 5.30pm on weekdays and 9.30am to 4pm on Saturdays.
