PROPOSALS to open a new café in Wibsey Park have been approved by planning officers.
A planning application to create a new community cafe in Wibsey Community Gardens, based in the park, was been submitted to Bradford Council by Bradford Organic Communities Service, an environmental charity based at the gardens.
The charity grows fruit and vegetables to sell to the local community, as well as keeping bees to create honey for sale.
The charity works with schools and local community groups.
The plans called for the construction of an indoor cafe with workshop space for the charity’s activities, as well as an outdoor terrace.
The café would utilise the existing kitchen on the site, and open on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 11am to 3pm and on Saturdays from 10am to 1pm.
There had been four letters of support for the new café, saying it would attract more visitors to the park and improve a community asset.
Approving the application this week, planning officers said: “The proposal will improve the facilities within the site and support the continued long term use of the community gardens and allow for greater use of the site by all members of the local community.”
