New plan launched to tackle serious violence across West Yorkshire
The Mayor of West Yorkshire has launched her new Police and Crime plan today
A new plan to tackle violent crime across West Yorkshire has been launched, with a focus on preventing young people falling into a life of criminality.
Mayor of West Yorkshire Tracey Brabin launched the new strategy at an event today.
It looks at issues like the safety of women and girls, as well as 'county lines' drugs gangs and knife crime.
Part of the strategy will see additional support offered to 'at risk' men and boys to prevent them being exploited by criminals.
Other priorities include reducing the number of people killed or seriously injured on the roads of West Yorkshire.
A new flagship campaign named 'I Took a Seat' will be launched, covering key issues like drug and knife crime, as well as violence towards women, rehabilitation and making a positive difference in local communities.
Mayor of West Yorkshire, Tracy Brabin said:
“Serious violence remains a scourge on society both locally and nationally, which is why I have made this a top priority for our region.
“We are known for our innovative approach to tackling male violence towards women and girls. But it is crucial that we also work together to support vulnerable men and boys and clamp down on issues like gang violence and knife crime.
“We will continue to work with our partners and communities to ensure West Yorkshire remains a safer, fairer place to live and work.”
