Two men jailed after drugs worth over £1 million seized in West Yorkshire
Ketamine and cocaine were seized during the investigation
Two men involved in the supply of ketamine and cocaine in West Yorkshire have been jailed after police uncovered drugs potentially worth over £1 million.
Uzair Hamid, 30, and Kai Helliwell, 25, were sentenced at Leeds Crown Court yesterday (January 15) for their involvement in drug offences last year.
Hamid, of Deveron Grove, Huddersfield, received seven years and six months behind bars for charges including being concerned in the supply of ketamine, possession with intent to supply ketamine, possession with intent to supply cannabis, conspiracy to supply cocaine, and being concerned in the supply of a Class B drug.
Experts valued the seized ketamine at between £511,000 and £1,460,000.
Helliwell, of Whitwell Drive, Elland, was sentenced to three years for possession with intent to supply cocaine and conspiracy to supply cocaine.
The cocaine recovered was valued between £5,396 and £9,516.
The pair were arrested on 15th May 2025 during investigations conducted by West Yorkshire Police's organised crime unit into suspected drug networks in Kirklees.
Hamid was detained outside his home in Huddersfield after officers identified him as being involved. A search of his address revealed quantities of Class B drugs.
Later that evening, Helliwell was stopped while driving in the Fixby area of Huddersfield, where officers discovered suspected Class A drugs in his car.
Detective Inspector Kevin Daly of West Yorkshire Police said:
“Drug dealing brings nothing but misery to our streets and is a key cause of wider organised crime and related violence that none of us want to see."
“We welcome the sentencing of Hamid and Helliwell, who both admitted being involved in drug dealing in our communities.
"The amount of ketamine recovered by officers was substantial and clearly worth very significant amounts of money if it had been dealt on our streets.”
