West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue reminding people dangers of open water
As the nice weather continues in West Yorkshire, the local fire service is reminding people about the dangers of open water swimming
As the spell of nice weather continues today, with some sunny days expected next week - people are being urged to be aware of the dangers.
Chris Bell is the Assistant District Commander in Kirklees and said: "There can be tree roots, debris, there can be rubbish in there.
"And as well, the silt and the mud on the river bed can be really dangerous and people can be stuck in that."
The warning comes as the sunny weather we've seen for the last couple of weeks, goes into next week.
Chris also said: "As much as the water tempting, open water can be really dangerous. It can be a lot colder than people expect, so we'd ask them not to go in open water, and consider visiting organised life guarded sites, like swimming pools."
