A pedestrian who was hit and killed by a van in the Wrenthorpe area of Wakefield last week has been named as 70 year old David Powell.

He was fatally injured at around 8:20pm on February 6 on Bradford Road, when he was struck by a white VW Caddy Van.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Paying tribute, David's family wrote: “David was a supportive and caring presence in all our lives."

"He was a loving family member and friend; he will be missed by all that knew him.”

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to come forward, particularly a group of three people seen exiting a taxi in the moments before the crash.
