A vacant former Sam Smith’s pub near to Wakefield city centre has been sold for £445,000.

The Albion Inn, on Greenhill Road, Eastmoor, was bought for almost three times its guide price at an auction on Wednesday (September 30).

The property was one of four Sam Smith’s to go under the hammer at the event run by BTG Eddisons Property Auctions.

Auctioneer Adrian Little said the lot had created a “huge amount of interest” among bidders.

He said: “This is a substantial former brick built public house is on a prominent corner plot with car parking and resident accommodation upstairs.

“No doubt you will have made your own enquiries in respect of the possible uses for the building, which I think are considerable, having regard to its high-profile location.”

Bidding started at the £150,000 guide price before being sold to a telephone bidder for £445,000.

A description of the property on the BTG Eddisons website said: “The property occupies a freehold plot of just under a third of an acre with large car park and adjoins both commercial and residential premises.

“Excellent potential is offered for a variety of uses, subject to the appropriate consents.”

The Tadcaster-based brewery put several of its pubs in Yorkshire on the market earlier this month, including the Bulls Head, in Tingley, and the Wellington Inn in Knaresborough.
