The grieving family of Lisa Smith, a 33-year-old mother of six from Almondbury who died after an attack in her home, have paid tribute to her.

Lisa passed away in hospital yesterday from serious head injuries sustained during an incident in the early hours of December 19 on Fernside Avenue.

In a statement, Lisa’s mother wrote:

"This is one of the hardest things I have ever had to share"

“Lisa Jane Louise Smith fell to sleep at 17:28 on the 21/12/2025. I tucked her in tightly and kissed her goodnight.

"Lisa had one final party she needed to attend to make sure she could spread some Christmas magic.

"She did what she does best by helping other families have a special Christmas until she fell fast asleep.

"From the bottom of all our hearts we cannot express how truly grateful we really are for everyone in the community pulling together and making her six beautiful babies’ Christmas, and lives special.

"The kindness and love that everyone has shown us has just explained how very loved she really was and still is.

"Thank you to each and every one of you. Enjoy your final party and well-earned rest. Love you lots and lots like jelly shots even more than vodka shots. ❤️"

Gareth Brook, a 34-year-old man from Fernside Avenue, appeared before Leeds Magistrates’ Court on 20th December charged with assault in connection with the attack.

The case is now being treated as a potential murder.

Brook has since been remanded in custody and is expected to appear at Leeds Crown Court on 16th January.

Proceedings will be updated to reflect the results of the forensic post-mortem to determine Lisa’s cause of death.
