Huddersfield housing scheme supporting older and disabled people officially opens
Ash View in Ashbrow provides 50 self-contained fully accessible flats for people with additional needs
A Huddersfield Extra Care housing scheme has celebrated its official opening, helping older people and those with disabilities to grow their independence.
Developed by Kirklees Council, Ash View in Ashbrow provides 50 self-contained, fully accessible flats, with tailored support for residents with diverse needs, including age-related health requirements, mental health conditions, physical disabilities, and learning disabilities. Care is provided by Community Integrated Care – a national social care charity.
The scheme is designed to balance independence and privacy while providing a safe, supportive home and round-the-clock assistance.
A recent launch event brought together residents, staff, councillors, partnership services and local community members for the official opening. Attendees took part in tours around the site, and met staff and residents. The council says the setting is having a positive impact in the community.
Councillor Moses Crook, Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Transport and Housing, said: “Ash View is exactly the kind of forward-thinking design and support that people in Kirklees deserve; modern, adaptable, and at the heart of the local community. We’re proud to have partnered with Community Integrated Care to bring this scheme to life.
“It marks another key step in our commitment to expanding our available housing to meet demand, and our role in giving Kirklees residents the independence everyone deserves.”
Edd Terrey, Managing Director at Community Integrated Care, said: “We’re delighted to see Ash View officially open and to celebrate with the people we support, colleagues, partners, and local people. It’s clear that the service is already becoming a thriving community, truly shaped by the people who live here, and will make a real difference to people’s lives for many years to come.”
As of August 2025, a small number of one-bed flats remained at Ash View. Anyone wishing to express an interest is encouraged to contact the council’s Adult Social Care team.
