A family from South Elmsall has been sentenced for drug offences following a police operation in Wakefield District, stemming from community intelligence.
Philip and Pamela Spencer, along with their grandson Blake Cowell, faced the court after authorities raided their home earlier this year.
Details of the Offences
The police operation took place at an address on Harrow Street on 20th January, resulting in the seizure of amphetamines, crack cocaine, and weapons such as a knuckle duster and a crossbow.
Philip Spencer, 64, received a sentence of five years and seven months for possession of crack cocaine with intent to supply.
Pamela Spencer, 66, was sentenced to three years for similar charges.
Blake Cowell, 21, faced charges of possessing cannabis with intent to supply and possession of an offensive weapon, receiving a two-year suspended sentence, a two-year drug programme, and 150 hours of unpaid work.
He was also banned from driving for two years and six months for separate driving offences, including dangerous driving and causing damage to a police vehicle.
Impact of Community Involvement
Detective Inspector Sarah Degnan of Wakefield CID highlighted the role community intelligence played in identifying and apprehending the family.
She noted that the Spencers had been a significant concern for locals, expressing relief that they have been sentenced to substantial time behind bars.
Investigation lead DC Saqib Iqbal praised the community's involvement and reassured residents of timely police action on received information.
The convictions mark an important milestone in addressing drug-related activities in South Elmsall, aiming to positively impact the local community.
