Man jailed after 'unprovoked' stabbing outside Shipley takeaway

A man has been jailed over an 'unprovoked' stabbing outside of a takeaway in Shipley last September.
41 year old Asad Abbas, of Leeds Road, admitted to section 18 grievous bodily harm after the attack on Crag Street on September 18.
Abbas punched the victim, who was an acquaintance, before using a weapon to stab him in the neck.
The 52 year old victim suffered serious but non life threatening injuries.
Abbas has today been jailed for life with a minimum term of four years and 250 days.
He can only be released if the Parole Board deems he is no longer a risk to the public.
DC Arman Hussain of West Yorkshire Police said: “Abbas’s offending was violent and unprovoked. He used a weapon which caused a stab wound to the victim's neck.
“The victim was very lucky he wasn’t more seriously hurt.
“Violence on our streets is never the answer. I hope this sentence shows how seriously we take assaults of this nature."
