Shipley man charged with trying to smuggle 'AK47-style rifles' into the UK

He was stopped at Dover over the weekend

A Shipley man has been remanded into custody charged with firearms offences, after allegedly trying to import handguns and four 'AK-47 style' rifles into the UK.

61 year old John Brian Capper is due before Canterbury Magistrates Court on June 8.

He was stopped on Saturday at border control in Dover.

Officers seized firearms and ammunition from the Toyota Avensis he was driving.
