£3m Seacroft industrial park expansion planned
Seventeen new industrial units are planned to create more space for businesses at Limewood Park in Seacroft.
The £3m expansion of an industrial estate is set to boost jobs and raise cash for the council.
Seventeen new industrial units are planned to create more space for businesses at Limewood Park in Seacroft.
Leeds City Council is seeking a contractor to carry out the project, also set to deliver green space improvements at the estate.
A council report said: “There is currently an under-provision of light industrial units across the Leeds local authority area.”
The report said “market failure” in delivery that size of industrial units meant the project was needed to boost employment.
It said: “Additionally, the delivery of new units is at the heart of the council’s revenue growth strategy.”
The scheme would be funded through Prudential Borrowing, a system of capital financing used by local authorities.
The new units would be designed to attract small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to the Limewood Road estate.
The report said: “The works will consist of the construction of 17 light industrial units at the Limewood Park Industrial Estate in Seacroft.
“This development will help attract SME’s and increase local job opportunities whilst providing income for the council.”
Around 200 people took part in a public consultation on the proposal last summer, the report said.
A tender has been published for the contract, expected to start in April next year and be completed 12 months later.
