A 27 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of driving offences after police tracked a group riding offroad bikes through traffic in Leeds over the weekend.

The incident occurred in the York Road area where around eight vehicles were seen weaving between other vehicles, riding on pavements and speeding through red lights.

The National Police Air Service quickly located the group from the air, with their Fixed Wing crew tracking them as they continued through Halton Moor and Temple Newsam.

The bike believed to be leading the ride-out was pursued into Chapeltown, where it was brought to a stop

The rider, the 27-year-old man, was arrested following a short foot chase on suspicion of offences including dangerous driving. He has since been released on bail.

Chief Inspector James Farrar, of West Yorkshire Police, said:

“We know that the antisocial and criminal use of off-road bikes is a big concern in our communities and that the public support us in taking firm action to tackle it."

“Dealing with such antisocial behaviour and denying criminals the use of the road remains one of our top priorities, and it’s why we’ve invested in the specialist equipment to allow us the capability to do so."

“With the support of NPAS, there is nowhere to hide and, as this incident shows, we will take robust action to stop these vehicles where it is safe and proportionate to do so.”
