Leeds Rhinos forward James McDonnell has put pen to paper on a new deal, keeping him at Headingley until the end of the 2026 Super League season.

The back rower, 25, has extended his deal for one year having become a big part of the matchday team this season.

He joined from Wigan Warriors ahead of the 2023 campaign.

Speaking to the Leeds Rhinos website, McDonnell said: "I really wanted to get my contract sorted. It's been a good start to the year, and I'm looking forward to staying longer now."

"When I left Wigan and came to Leeds, it was time for me to grow up, and I think I've matured quite a lot—being on my own, away from family.

"My girlfriend moved over with me, and Leeds feels like home now."
