Police have made an arrest as they continue to investigate the shooting of a teenage boy in Huddersfield last week.

The incident occurred on April 8 on in woodland near football pitches off Spaines Road in Birkby.

The shooting happened when the boy was walking with friends near the 'pavilion' on the Woodlanders FC pitches between 8:30pm and 9:00pm last Wednesday.

Witnesses reported seeing two masked men behind trees in a snicket off Richmond Avenue just before the firearm was discharged.

A 17-year-old suffered a non-life-threatening leg injury and has since been discharged from hospital.

Two homes were searched by police earlier this week, with officers today confirming they've arrested a 19 year old from Huddersfield on suspicion of attempted murder and firearms offences.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact police on 101.
