200 jobs at risk as Pontefract confectionary factory to close
Valeo Foods UK is to wind down operations at its site off Ferrybridge Road

Around 200 jobs are at risk at a Pontefract confectionary factory, with plans to wind down operations there over the next 12 months.
Valeo Foods UK makes things like gummy sweets and jelly beans at its site off Ferrybridge Road.
The decision is part of what the firm is calling a 'strategic transformation' of the business.
Kevin Moore, Valeo Foods UK CEO, said: “This is not a decision we have taken lightly and we fully recognise the impact it will have on our team and the wider community in Pontefract."
"Every possible option to continue manufacturing at the site was carefully reviewed. However, the level of investment needed to make the site competitive and sustainable long-term was found to be unviable, particularly given its proximity to other Valeo facilities in the UK.”
“Our priority now is to support all affected colleagues through this process. We are committed to managing the wind down responsibly and fairly.
"Collective consultation with employees and their representatives has now concluded and we will continue discussions on an individual basis regarding relocation, redundancy and outplacement support.”
