250 guests gathered at Bradford Cathedral last night - to remember PC Sharon Beshenivsky
A special memorial service had been held in memory of former West Yorkshire PC Sharon Beshenivsky, 20 years on from her murder in Bradford.
250 guests gathered at Bradford Cathedral last night, joining members of Sharon's family and PC Teresa Milburn who survived the shooting in November 2005.
Four men have been jailed for Sharon's murder, with two others also serving sentences for manslaughter and a seventh man jailed for robbery.
The alleged mastermind of the robbery, outside a travel agent on Morley Street, was jailed for life last year.
West Yorkshire Police’s Chief Constable John Robins QPM DL said:
“Last night was a poignant service to keep Sharon’s memory alive on this significant anniversary. We remain committed to supporting Sharon’s family and remembering the ultimate sacrifice she made.
“This was a fitting tribute to Sharon’s life and the commitment she made to policing. The service was attended by her family, friends, colleagues and the wider police family.
“Sharon along with her colleague PC Teresa Milburn showed immense courage and bravery that day.
"Sharon’s death still reminds us of the risk that police officers and staff face every day as they work tirelessly to keep our communities safe.
“We will always remember Sharon and what she did to keep our communities safe; she will never be forgotten.”
