A private investment company in Leeds say it's unlikely any residents of a coal board estate in Rothwell will be evicted from their homes.
Marches are taking place through Oulton today protesting a planning application they say will lead to up to 70 homes being demolished.
The NUM say approximately 250 people who live in the 70 privately-rented homes are threatened with eviction by Pemberstone, a private investment company that owns their estate.
Pemberstone has put in a planning application so it can demolish the 70 homes to build expensive executive detached houses for sale.
A spokesperson for Pemberstone said:
“Having been involved with the estate for 17 years we know how important the community is in Oulton.
“There is no intention of a wholesale demolition and redevelopment of all the houses in one phase as our planning application forms the basis of a blueprint for the development and modernisation of the estate over the next 15 years.
“Pemberstone has always said that all tenancy agreements will be honoured and it is unlikely that any residents will be expected to vacate their property and leave the estate.
