Man who died after Saltaire canal crash named
A man who died after his car went into the canal at Saltaire earlier this week has been named as John Harkin.
The family of the 74 year old say was a keen sportsman and he will be hugely missed.
A statement from John's family said: “It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John Harkin, who passed away after a tragic accident on Sunday, 7th December at the age of 74.
“John was a keen sportsman from an early age. His passions were rugby, golf, walking and ornithology. He will be much missed by his family, friends and local community.
“We as a family would like to express our sincere thanks to PC Everett who attempted an extremely brave rescue. We would kindly ask for privacy and respect at this difficult time.”
